Where Every Dog
Has a Purpose
Our story started with Schnauzers in the family — always underfoot, always opinionated, always the first to greet you at the door. Something about that breed got under our skin early on, and we've never looked back. That was over fifteen years ago.
Hamm Mercy's Schnauzers started as a personal passion that gradually became something we couldn't not share with others. We breed small litters, carefully planned, with health testing as the non-negotiable foundation. We want to know that every puppy we place has the best possible chance at a long, healthy life — and that every family knows they have a partner in us for the duration.
These aren't just dogs we raise and send off into the world. We genuinely care where they land. If you're considering reaching out, we want to hear about your life — your home, your schedule, your other pets if you have them. This is a relationship, not a transaction. And we think the dogs would agree.

How We Work
Our Breeding Philosophy
Three commitments we make to every family — before, during, and long after pickup day.
Health First
Every adult in our program is health-tested before breeding. We screen for cardiac function, eye health, and hereditary conditions specific to the Schnauzer breed. Puppies come with a written health guarantee and full vet records. We will never cut corners here — the cost of health testing is the cost of doing this ethically.
Temperament Matters
We handle our puppies daily from birth, introducing gentle sounds, textures, and human contact during the critical socialization window. A Schnauzer that has been raised this way is more confident, more resilient, and easier to train. Temperament isn't something you can fix after the fact — it has to be built in.
We Stay in Touch
After your puppy goes home, the relationship continues. We're available for questions about nutrition, training, and vet referrals. We ask that you reach out to us first if circumstances ever mean you can't keep your dog — we will help find them a good home. Every Hamm Mercy dog has a safety net for life.
Breed Spotlight
What Is a Schnauzer?
The Schnauzer — recognized by their distinctive bushy eyebrows, beard, and wiry double coat — originated in Germany as a versatile working dog prized for hunting vermin, guarding farms, and serving alongside their owners. Their sharp intelligence, bold temperament, and loyal nature made them exceptional partners. Today, those same traits translate into a confident, alert companion: highly trainable, deeply devoted, and endlessly spirited.
Schnauzers come in three AKC-recognized sizes — Miniature, Standard, and Giant — each sharing the same hallmark characteristics but suited to different lifestyles. Their low-shedding, hypoallergenic-friendly wiry coat makes them a popular choice for families with allergies. They bond strongly with their people, thrive with consistent training and mental stimulation, and adapt well to both active homes and quieter households.
“Intelligent, Loyal, and Built for Partnership”
Schnauzers were bred to work alongside humans — not just to be companions. That instinct to cooperate and connect is still very much alive in modern dogs, and it’s one of the things that makes them such rewarding pets for the right family.
